Garlic Hot Sauce Is Great For Dipping Finger Foods

By Eric Murphy

Most people have to admit that adding certain spices to foods gives them new life. This may seem exaggerated but many popular condiments and toppings with combinations of seasonings and spices often move quickly from shelves. Jalapeno, rosemary, and vanilla can elevate a flavor profile quickly. The same holds true for certain condiments like garlic hot sauce, pesto, and tahini.

Out of all the condiments out there, those with ample amounts of garlic are probably the most popular., followed by spices that tend to be on the hot side when it comes to taste. It is certainly versatile, as it can be used with dishes inspired by Asian, Italian, and Latin flavors. Anyone can create a finger food that is based on a traditional recipe but with a personal touch added.

Many sauces that are flavored with garlic may range from a slight buttery taste from roasting to sweet hint that balances any bitter aftertaste. Hot sauces are usually a blend of red and green peppers with a hint of jalapeno. These are the basic ingredients though few makers will up the ante by adding ghost bell peppers or habanero, just a couple that rank fairly high in the heat Scoville rating.

Making a nutritious sauce is simple. Low sodium soy sauce or liquid amino make a nice base for teriyaki. Instead of using corn syrup, try raw honey or pure maple syrup. Hot sauce of any kind may be added for that extra kick, along with garnishments like chopped green onions or toasted sesame seeds.

In the past, finger foods were on the bland side and lacked real color. Tuna salad on small croissants, Margherita style flatbread, or the classic staple, watercress on white bread with mayonnaise. These were fairly simple to make but predictable. While some of these traditional standbys seemed light in consistency, they could be laden with calories.

These sauces are also great for spicing up simple dishes, like meatloaf, burgers, and tamale pie. Most people like to use these at breakfast time, as garlic flavor is good with potato or egg dishes. For those who like pizza with pepperoni or sliced peppers, just adding a few drops to a single slice will change how most people see hot foods.

More people are also finding that food cooked on a grill is more exciting. It also gives groups of people a reason to be outside when the weather is warm. These days, fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables taste better when prepared over an open flame. Adding these to a traditional recipe can change the flavor profile for the better.

When it comes to serving finger foods for guests, the presentation does not matter like it once did. Not to imply that the appearance should be slovenly but more people are concerned about the taste. With the right combination of flavors, some foodies will not hesitate to share a photo of a dish that does not have the best visuals. What matters the most is how they rave about a particular recipe.
