Veganism And Healthy Vegan Granola

By Janet Thomas

Veganism as it is referred to is both the refrain from eating and using animal products and a has a philosophy and religion to back it up. Vegan granola would be primarily consumed by a type of person who is a vegan. Granola is a great snack and is consumed on the go or as a breakfast then again really at any time of the day.

It tends to fill a person up and that is why it can be eaten as a meal. It is usually eaten with milk or yogurt but this is not so with strict vegetarians. It is a hearty meal and also very crunchy so it feels as though something wholesome is being eaten when consumed.

Vegans and strict vegetarians are a step ahead when it comes to refraining using animal products. They believe that the use of thereof is not a sustainable practice. Other goods which are not used are leather products such as shoes, belts, fur coats and any product that uses any kind of animal based product.

A meal of granola offers a hearty meal as it contains proteins derived from the nuts used such as almonds. Others can be used such as hazelnuts, cashews and monkey nuts. Fruit is used to in its preparation as well as dried fruits such as cranberries, dates, dried peaches and even apricots. It all depends on the person's preferences and there is much to chose from. It can also be consumed with fruit juices and liquidized into a smoothie using any choice of fruit juice.

Making it is a pretty simple exercise as almost all recipes follow the same formula which has been used for years. First take rolled oats and add almonds and bake together with sunflower oil until a crunchy consistency is formed. Many take the process a lot further and will add in other seeds such as sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.

A common other ingredient is dried fruit depending on preference. Some use dates, raisins, sultanas, dried peaches, dried pears and whatever there is to be used. Add all the ingredients to an electric mixer and chop them up into bits but being careful not to chop them up too finely. Once the chopping part has been completed, add honey or maple syrup or even use fructose mixed with a little water, then bake in oven for a short while while avoiding burning the mixture as sugar based products tend to burn easily.

As vegans do not use dairy milk and dairy yogurts which regular meat eaters will use, they prefer to use soya milk and others such as almond, coconut and rice milks. Fresh fruit can be added too either before mixing or added after. Again, it is preferable to use an electric chopper rather than by hand as by hand it can take some time.

Vegans adhere to a strict diet and with this product it is not different. The term granola was coined in the mid eighteen hundreds in a town called Dansville New York. It has grown in its use in leaps and bounds and is enjoyed by all in every part of the globe.
