Jamaican Black Cake For Sale For Christmas And Thanksgiving

By Catherine Kelly

It really isn't long now until Christmas and you need to decide what food you are going to celebrate with this year. In the UK and across many other countries a liquor cake is popular that is known as black cake. So for something different this year try a hand baked Jamaican black cake for sale locally instead of a store bought one.

Let's take a look at why you shouldn't buy a dessert from a store for Christmas. Mass-produced they will have a lower fruit content and many won't actually contain any rum at all. So if you really are going to buy from a store, read the label and see what you are paying for. Pre-packed pastries and desserts sold in supermarkets are not a patch on the delicacies that you can find in local Jamaica bakeries.

So let's take a look at the different options you have when you want a Jamaican style dessert for your festive day. Firstly you can choose between a pudding or a cake. Or why not simply have both. A pudding served with rum sauce is the traditional dessert in the United Kingdom for Christmas day. As well as there being liquor in the sauce there will be in the pudding itself. But don't worry about if you can give it to kids or not. Unless you actually pour rum over the top without cooking, the alcohol content will be zero as it will have been cooked.

Now let's take a look at what the traditional family eats at Christmas time. Well, too much is the simple answer. A family will probably start to eat when they finish unwrapping gifts, and not finish till they go to bed. The main meal for the day will often be turkey with stuffing and all the trimmings. This will be followed by pudding and white rum sauce.

So after your lunch has settled it will be time to return to the table again. This time the centrepiece will be a Christmas log, preferably a black Jamaican iced one. You will indulge in cold turkey and stuffing and other baked treats such as sausage rolls. So, when will you possibly have the room to eat the baked delicacy that is in the centre of the table. Many times no one will even touch it on Christmas day.

Don't worry though. Your dessert will not go off. In fact it will get richer the longer it is left to mature. This ensures that you won't waste food on the big day. Put into a tin it can last for months and even till next Christmas. All you need is an airtight container and you are all set until you want to eat it.

But really you should pay a little more for your dessert than one from the supermarket shelf. You could try your hand at baking one yourself, or just by one from a bakery, adding he icing at home to ensure that it looks perfect for the day.

Bring your dessert home with you and add the finishes touches. Royal icing is the favoured way to decorate for your special day. This is something you can do by buying icing sugar or ready to roll icing. A layer or marzipan is also a tradition in England that will be sure to go down a treat.
