I don't know about you but I have such a great dad I want to give him something from my heart this year-- like fun and thoughtful Father's Day gift baskets he will love. When else do I get the chance to show him how much I appreciate him being there for me all throughout my life anytime I needed him - or didn't need him or so I thought. He's a special man and more than worthy to be celebrated.
Personally, I find that gift giving offers one great advantage - it allows you to make the recipient try something he wouldn't necessarily like doing. If you prepare beautifully done and sweetly given healthy gift baskets, your dad will have no choice but to partake of it. It sounds a little scheming, but having a healthy dad is worth whatever it takes. Then go out and have a nice picnic lunch, just the both of you. Now that's definitely something he would appreciate.
