Recognizing Illegitimate Italian Olive Oil In 3 Steps

By Katie Onson

Italian olive oil, in terms of legitimacy, can be defined by a number of points. You have to make sure that these are focused on so that you can purchase a bottle that's more than qualified for long-term culinary endeavors. However, what can those who are unfamiliar with this product do in order to ensure that they can make smart purchasing decisions as well? In order for this to be carried out, here is a list of 3 pointers to help this process along.

If your focus is on avoiding Italian olive oil which may not be legitimate, take its price into consideration. A care2 article went into detail about various points of illegitimacy and one of the topics covered was price. In fact, I'm sure that authorities the likes of Unaprol can tell you that you should not settle for cheaper options but rather invest in higher-end bottles of oil which can go up to $30 or so. You can be certain that a higher price will translate to greater quality.

Another point that the article detailed was the date. Essentially, if the oil itself has not been used within two years of its initial harvest, you can be certain that the product itself has gone bad. This is where shoppers must be attentive, as they have to focus on the "best by" date, which will help them see which products are fresher. If you find that a certain bottle lacks this vital component, you are better off straying from it and turning to another brand entirely.

Finally, make sure that the taste of the oil seems appropriate. One can make the argument that taste is not the deciding factor, but I am of the opinion that it should be recognized all the same. An illegitimate variation of oil may come across as rancid or even metallic, meaning that it's no good to use in your future culinary efforts. This is a common sign of cheaper oils, meaning that the aforementioned idea of price is that much more crucial to the shopping process.

There's no denying the fact that Italian olive oil, at least the most legitimate bottles, comes with a tremendous degree of worth. As a result, it's important to understand how the most legitimate products can be differentiated from those which may not be nearly as useful. Make note of the aforementioned points, as these will provide more than enough guidance. As long as you adhere to them, the bottles you purchase in the future will be more than worthwhile.
