What You Need To Know About Craft Distillers

By Kenya Campos

Drinking is a huge part of human customs and traditions. Like most things, this too has both an up side and a down side. The vast majority of the society sees alcohol as something that is bad due to the increasing number of alcoholics. This alcohol dependence is affecting most families and people relations, so this particular outrage is somehow justifiable.

For non alcohol consumers, it is fairly perplexing to point out a characteristic of this particular beverage to love. But, for craft distillers and avid drinkers, there are more to drinking than just being drunk. In a recent survey that targeted quite a number of young people, there are many reasons why people consume alcohol. To be able to socialize is one of the major causes of spirit consumption. You can blame Hollywood and other entertainment medias for this, what with them depicting the standard party boy and girl stereotype that appears to be popular with the crowd. For teenagers who just wish to fit in, this could be quite an example.

In relation, the second reason for drinking is to overcome shyness or uneasiness. These all go away when one drinks, according to most drinkers. If you are nervous about something, a shot of whiskey ought to calm you down just as easily. Intoxication takes away most insecurities and inhibitions, allowing somebody to do something they do not usually do.

The influence of friends and other people that surrounds a person is enough to make him or her drink. Sometimes these people are obliged to drink out of respect, so as not to offend the one who is offering the said beverage. Sometimes, they choose to drink because everyone else is doing so. This is true for most underage drinkers, who consume alcohol in order to belong to the clique.

Some also drink because they had been curious as to what it really tastes like. Sometimes, this curiosity just leaves them deeply involved in something, which inevitably leads to addiction. The most avid drinkers often take this path, and then suddenly they can not get out.

Most alcoholic beverages are made by large distilling companies. They make their products in large batches and store them in vats. These liqueurs are then mass produced by hundreds of boxes that make their way to retailers and grocery stores. But, small scale wine making is on the rise, known as micro distillery. Ordinary people with a profound love for alcohol push themselves to create small batches of what is usually called artisanal beverage.

More and more small scale distillers become accomplished producers of most spirits. They become adept at making the best bottles of gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, tequila and brandy. They go on and become expert liqueur makers, too. A liqueur, by the way, are made by infusing certain woods, fruits, and flowers to the aforementioned spirits to give them an altogether different flavor.

Craft distillery does not stop on the production of spirits. They are now also engaged in the making of liqueurs, which are flavored spirits. The risk takers even try to produce an altogether different type of beer.

Artisanal distillers have to secure permits and special licenses before they can start their own small workhouse. They are also required to pay the federal distilled spirits excise taxes, apart from fourteen states that have their own spirits taxes.
