Sault Ste. Marie is not just one town but two. This unique and interesting location is actually two communities of the same name, one on the United States side of the river and the other on the Canadian side. An international bridge connects the towns and is a fully manned border crossing. Visitors from either side should be ready with their passports if they wish to cross the border and visit both countries.

The navigable waterway has always been attractive as a good place to settle. For many hundreds of years people have settled in the area because of the abundance of fish. The fast flowing waters are a perfect breeding ground for many forms of aquatic life and even today the river provides employment for many residents as well as leisure events for everyone.

Fishing has always been a big part of the the commerce and even today many people come to enjoy a days fishing with friends and family. There are some excellent charter companies who can take out individuals or groups. All of the tackle can provided as well instruction from experienced fisherman who have spent their lives on the water.

As the children get older there are some excellent schools. Most families choose their home with a school district in mind. They will have plenty of excellent options which will meet the need of any child. In addition, they will be able to take advantage of many leisure facilities such as sports, drama and the arts.

Those who want to make Sault Ste. Marie their long term home will be happy to know there are many affordable housing options. Young single people are typically looking for city center condominiums or apartments. They want to have all the benefits of living close to shops, restaurants and transportation links.

Horse back riding is another wonderful way to see the area. There are rides available for everyone from a total beginner who has never been on a horse before to experienced riders who are comfortable galloping and jumping. Riding holidays are also a great hit with children and teenagers. They can have an unforgettable week taking care of their mount and learning all about the joys of ranch life.

No matter weather they are visiting for a few days, or staying for a lifetime there is plenty to do and see in the Sault Ste. Marie area. The warm summers and snowy winters make this a true sporting paradise. Activities such as fishing on the river provides a great day out for the entire family.
