What To Know About Mamaki Tea

By Joanna Walsh

Tea is a drink that people have enjoyed for thousands of years. Nowadays, it is readily available in many forms and flavors. Some of these, such as herbal kinds, are considered healthy and beneficial to the body. Mamaki tea would be considered a healthier option. It has grown in popularity today, although it has been a fixture in the Hawaiian culture for many years. It is believed to have a number of health benefits.

In this plant, there are catechins. These are antioxidants found, in smaller doses, in chocolate, apples, berries and red wine. Many speculate that these antioxidants, which are found in abundance in the leaves of this tea plant, are associated with longevity and good health.

The plant and its tea include chlorogenic acid. This is an antioxidant found in root vegetables, but not in as high of abundance as in this plant. Rutin is the name for a flavonoid of the polyphenol family that is commonly found in citrus, buckwheat, red wine, tomato skins and this tea. A study done on animals showed that rutin has antioxidant characteristics that might be beneficial when it comes to weight management.

There is still a lot of information not known about this. To date, research has shown that the drink is comprised of many antioxidants, which are important for fighting free radicals and keeping cell integrity. It is also believed to feature beta-carotene. This is also effective when it comes to neutralization of free radicals in the body and improvement of antioxidant defense.

Calcium is present in these leaves and also known for maintaining and building bones. Mamaki also has magnesium, which has similar bone health benefits and it also used for improving the overall function of the immune system. Potassium is also found in these leaves, which means the drink can aid in improving blood pressure readings.

Every person is expected to have a different reaction to this drink. If a person experiences a negative response, he or she should stop drinking it. Because there is still a lot of research to be done on this tea and its effect on the body, people are encouraged to consume it with caution. It is best to find a tea product that includes no additives and is purely made from the leaves of this plant. Although considered healthy, this is not designed to diagnose, prevent, cure or otherwise treat any type of disease.

The product is offered by many retailers. It comes at different prices. People should do as much research on the providing company and manufacturer as possible, as not all of these are of the same quality. Furthermore, people should research this herbal tea and find out its potential positives and negatives.

Tea may be packaged as loose leaf or in a pouch. For best results and taste, people should brew the tea according to the instructions given by the manufacturer. Fresh or dry leaves are used for making the tea, which may be described as invigorating in taste. This tea might be of special benefit to those who suffer with listlessness or internal disorders, such as colon, bowel, bladder, stomach or liver issues. People with serious health problems are encouraged to seek professional health care services and not rely solely on this or any other tea.
