How To Use Wine For Cooking

By Michael Robert Peterson

Any sommelier can tell you that wine is one of the more unique ingredients to bring into any dish. Most people like to have it as a drink, for special occasions, and it's clear that there are numerous subtypes to account for as well. With that said, did you know that there are different ways in which wine can be used for cooking? For those who are curious as to what this entails, here are a few of the best uses for both new cooks and experienced specialists to consider.

Wine is tremendous for many reasons, one of them being the creation of marinades. For those who are unfamiliar with this product, marinade is required for the sake of retaining moisture and incorporating a greater sense of flavor as well. It's not hard to see why wine can be used for this purpose, given the acidic make-up of said beverage. This is just one of many uses to look into, as far as wine is concerned in the culinary arts.

Wine is also great in case you'd like to bake. Let's say that you have become involved in the pastry arts; you may be focused on creating treats like cake. Fortunately, wine can be utilized in order to add other flavors to help compliment the overall dish. It also doesn't hurt that certain wines may help to make these pastries come out airier than they would have been otherwise. For bakers, in general, it would be unwise to overlook the usage of wine.

There's also the broader topic of cooking methods to consider, as it relates to wine. When cooking beef, for example, you may start to see that other ingredients can be added. Red wine has been used a number of times for this purpose, as a glaze if nothing else. When this happens, not only will the beef itself turn out tasting better but it'll only further illustrate the uses that wine, in general, can have in the hands of creative chefs.

If you want to look into ways in which wine can be used for cooking, there are several paths to take. It matters little if they are used specifically for cooking, or for the creation of simple dressing. All you have to know is that wine has more than its fair share of advantages, with some of them standing out more than others. Wine should not be overlooked by those in the culinary arts, as it stands as one of the most interesting - not to mention useful - ingredients out there.
