Mcdonalds & The Importance Of Olive Oil

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

McDonalds is arguably the most popular fast food establishment in the world. It seems like many people turn to this restaurant as their go-to source for food when they do not feel like cooking. Even though many people may look at this establishment as a negative, in terms of health, it seems like olive oil has become a recent addition to the arsenal. If you do not believe me, there may be a particular menu option that is deserving of your attention.

As an article on the Olive Oil Times detailed, McDonald's new artisan grilled chicken sandwich is one to recognize. One of the reasons for this is that, according to McDonald's themselves, this particular sandwich is cooked with a mixture of canola and olive oil. In addition, food lovers should know that this utilizes only 12 ingredients, down from the 18 that is usually associated with McDonald's sandwiches. These are just a few factors that should draw the attention of culinary enthusiasts across the board.

One has to ask the question: why did the McDonald's artisan grilled chicken sandwich come about to begin with? I think that it's important to note that McDonald's has received a number of consumer demands, as the article detailed. You have to keep in mind that many of the ingredients in this company's products are tough to recognize, which means that simplicity has been demanded. As a result, McDonald's created the sandwich covered earlier.

There's also the increase in healthy food options that we have seen over the past couple of years. Think about establishments like Starbucks and Panera Bread, both of which feature more nutritious options by comparison to what McDonald's has offered for years. Consumers have become increasingly careful about the food they put into their bodies, which has resulted in better business for the healthier names mentioned earlier. One can assume that this was done at the expense of McDonald's business, too.

Does this necessarily mean that more people will immediately turn to McDonald's? In my view, damage has already been done, since so many people associate the company with cholesterol-laden food than anything else. With that said, I think that there is still a desire, by McDonald's consumers, for healthier options they can take advantage of. It's just a matter of how far the company goes to ensure that these options are available to the masses.
