Olive Oil & How It Might Lead To Stronger Eyes

By Katie Arden

There are many ways in which one can improve his or her eye health. Perhaps they should wear sunglasses more often so that they aren't exposed to the Sun's harsh rays during the summer. Maybe a diet consisting of fruits and vegetables can help matters along. On the subject of diet, though, did you know that olive oil may be able to help in regards to eyesight? Even though this may not be a common benefit, it seems like we are moving closer and closer to this.

The Olive Oil Times put up a story that talked about how lutein, as it relates to the oil in question, can actually come into play in ways very few would realize. Lutein is seen as a type of carotenoid or, in other words, an antioxidant not unlike the ones that items like produce and green tea have. If you'd like to talk about the specific products where one can find lutein, leafy greens along the lines of spinach are hard to overlook. As useful as this carotenoid is, though, there is a certain role in the body it can play.

The article stated that various studies showed how lutein is actually able to help reduce instances of macular degeneration as it relates to age. Basically, what this means is that the retina of the eye can degrade with age, meaning that problems with sight can crop up in time. With these points in mind, you may be curious as to how exactly olive oil plays into this story. After all, it doesn't exactly contain lutein on its own, which is exactly the point to make note of.

Researchers from the University of Jan took the lutein content from seaweed and brought into olive oil. It's important to note that products like these should remain intact for natural effect, which is what companies like Unaprol can attest to. However, it's been said that it took these researchers about a year and a half to come up with a process that doesn't alter this product's taste or color. The fact that this was done shows that there is potential behind this study.

One has to wonder if the potential in question will be realized, though. As stated earlier, there are quite a few ways for sight and overall eye health to be preserved and I'd like to think that this type of oil could be tailored to help in this regard. What caught my attention, though, was the fact that this oil's properties were not exactly changed when lutein was integrated. Natural composition is crucial to this product and I am glad to see that very little had to be sacrificed.
