The Value Of Organic Probiotics

By Jeannie Chapman

There are several formulas made by reputable companies that offer organic probiotics. Supplement companies that hope to reassure consumers of their quality ingredients and expert formulation of health aids know that the organic seal tells customers that they will get pure and highest quality products.

Probiotics is the term used to designate beneficial bacteria that naturally live in our digestive tracts. There are many strains of bacteria that carry out important functions. They are part of our immune system, since they control the growth of less friendly organisms. They help break down foods and remove toxins that come from the food we eat and the environment we live in.

You are probably familiar with yogurt, which is now sold in every grocery store across the nation. This 'cultured' milk product is made with milk and bacteria (flora) added as the 'culture'. Lactobacillus is the strain most familiar to the general public, but it is only one of many beneficial organisms used around the world to culture foods and drinks.

One result of not eating foods rich in beneficial bacteria is an over-growth of Candida, also known as intestinal yeast. The epidemic of weight gain, yeast infections, and nail fungus testify to the lack of good flora in our systems. Candida can thrive under conditions which kill good flora, which naturally controls yeast cells when conditions are suitable for their survival. Antibiotics also contribute to Candida problems.

Digestive problems, oral thrush, bad breath and skin, and flatulence with foul smelling gas are all signs that the bad guys are winning the battle in your gut. Yeast cells flourish when the diet is full of refined carbohydrates and sugars. Digestion and nutrient absorption is compromised when Candida is the main bacteria in the gut, metabolism is slowed, the immune system is compromised, and energy production is inhibited.

The organic certification of a supplement is an assurance of clean and properly resourced ingredients. Many probiotic formulas contain other things like whole foods, enzymes, and fibers that help bacteria establish themselves in the human digestive tract. Healthy colonies of beneficial flora are only found in an environment with the proper pH and the nutrients they need to thrive.

PH balance is important, because the good bacteria are sensitive to too much acidity. Most of us who don't take special measures to balance out pH will be too acidic, which can cause weight gain, digestive problems, and lack of energy for daily living. Those with Candida overgrowth may have smelly feet and bad breath. Extreme acidity will manifest itself as acid reflux. In addition, a good formula will provide enzymes for food digestion and waste elimination.

Choosing organic probiotics in a carefully designed formula may be the key to increased health and well-being. Don't ignore your body's need for beneficial bacteria, or your nutritional efforts in other areas may go to waste. The quality of your life depends on total health through comprehensive nutrition.
