Fresh fish are commonly used among people and families in their local food. Fresh fish shipped in from other places is sold in areas such as urban towns where they do not have access to fishing ponds and dams. Though they have benefits accrued to them, they also have some disadvantages which to some people bring a negative impact.

Because of their high rate of getting bad, necessary measure can be taken to preserve them for later use. They should be mixed with cool ice that tends to refrigerate them. These cool temperatures are very good because they do not give room for fermentation and hence rotting cannot take place. They are put in shallow crates after the catch.

Other ways of identifying if the animal is still good are that when one looks at their gills and fins, the gills should be moist. Which are seen to be healthy have a very bright color which is red. Their eyes are shiny and clear. The old sea animals usually have sunken eyes into their head. This is very easy for somebody to know whether the creatures are good for their consumption. People should take into their body clean food which will assist boost their health.

So as to reduce the amount of those that are dried up in the process when storage occur, the frozen ones are put to cold water showers where the room temperatures are quite low. In the absence of cold water showers, put them in cold water so as to increase their levels of durability. This freezing should not exceed a maximum of six months because they will be termed as old or rotten.

It should also be shiny. When it seems to have the skin that is cracked or a discolored, this shows that they are rotting. Another sign of its rotting is when it loses its scales.

They also contain nutrients which are very useful to a baby when growing. Nutrients like omega 3 fatty acids help a child to develop his brain and better eyesight. It is important for nursing mothers to eat omega 3 fatty acids to boost the health of the child.

They have a characteristic of being firm when good. Due to their firmness, they acquire a characteristic of them being locally coherent and also their appearances changes. When it is pressed it should bounce back as one of the sign. When it appear to have a gray color, tend to be softer than usual as well as them being inelastic, this shows that the animal is either old or bad.
