Discovering Halal MRE Products And Packaging

By Deborah Walker

First formed over eighteen years ago, J&M was developed to provide military and other governmental agencies with rations. After a brief break, the Halal MRE and other rations are still provided to governmental organizations, including many military bases around the world. It is important to note that as J&M provides these products to Islamic and non-Islamic countries, those shipped to Islamic locations need be Halal certified.

Having started serving clients over 18 years ago with a focus on emergency, camping and military products, the parent company J&M is now well established. After a brief interruption, the company now has food available to ship to military bases, posts and government agencies. These products are the same quality MREs which have been supplied to humanitarian relief organizations, ICE, DHS, FEMA, United States and other embassies around the world.

When providing food, drink, housing and other necessities during an emergency, fast deliveries are often essential. Otherwise, individuals in these areas could run into air and food borne illnesses and in some cases, death. For, when individuals are forced to wait on food and water for days, outcomes are not always the best.

Rations are in no way gourmet meals though each package host 1200 calories of nutrition based product. There are also condiments which accompany each food pouch. For those watching caloric intake, it should be noted that the calories within the condiments are not included in this count.

While these MREs have a long shelf life, generally these foods are intended for use within one year. As the company was first established to assist the Department of Defense with emergency rations for those in need. Whether a soldier, humanitarian relief worker, first responder or victim, there is no doubt these prepackaged meals have saved lives.

When it comes to old school rations like those served in Viet Nam and earlier conflicts, people often had no idea of ingredients. As the rations are often commercially based brand name products with ingredient and caloric information, individuals have more knowledge related to calories and content. While there are end-of-life shelf dates on many rations, organizations still advise individuals against eating any food, especially rations beyond this date.

Companies who host ready-to-ship inventories can often provide the best service when it comes to emergencies, emergency personnel and survivors. While the military and other organizations can often place advance for orders then distribute to members as needed. In all cases, individuals need to verify that products have not surpassed the end-of-life shelf date before consumption. If there are items in a current delivery which are out-of-date, companies will most likely replace these items free of charge when notified immediately.

While there may be no certification required for non-Islamic deliveries, it should be noted that the food and drink delivered were most likely inspected by the FDA or other similar organizations. Still, individuals need take note that the packaging is essential to the life of the product. As such, any torn packaging should be returned for the company of origin for replacement.
